Ornament Tree

This will teach you several different methods of making or repurposing an item to use as an ornament hanger or ornament tree.

First, if you want to make a hanging ornament stand, you will need a section of thin brass pipe from the hardware store.  Choose a large, solid item such as a round coffee can, and wrap the pipe around there until it circles back around to where it started from.  Then, bend it at a 90° angle.  In order to make it arch a bit, use your coffee can, and wrap it against the can so it gets a slight arch.  After making it about 6-9 inches long, bend it so that it has a hook.  After making sure it sits flat, you are ready to hang ornaments from it.

To use an item that wasn’t previously intended for ornaments, you can find small jewelry hangers at some home stores such as Bed, Bath, and Beyond or Linen’s and Things.  These will have several loops coming out of the middle, and you can loop the hanger onto them.

Another idea is to use an actual Christmas tree, albeit a small one.  Just today I picked up a small Christmas tree that is blue with blue LED lights that come out of the ends.  There are no leaves or needles on this- it’s a twig tree.  And although it would be very tacky for most Christmas decorations, it’s perfect to hang and display ornaments!

Another idea is to use a decorative birdcage.  Hang the ornaments from the top bars so they dangle below.

You may also make your own twig display.  Find a great branch that spreads in a lot of different directions.  Get a piece of plywood and cut it to the proper size, and then screw from below the plywood into the branch.  This will hold it upright, and be a beautiful, natural display.
